Congratulations to Peter & Crew on their First Overall and First in Class in the EAORA Mercator Race from Harwich to Ostend, winning the Graham Ellis Trophy, the Mercator Winch and the Thake Trophy.
We are now in June and the season is well underway, we have lots going on..... last week we had all four boats out for 7 days straight & some brave customers enjoying the early season sun on a dinghy course with another scheduled during the school half term holiday. We are especially busy with own boat tuition so if your after some help and advice on your own boat be sure to ring up and get it booked as soon as possible so we can secure an instructor for you.
Following on from a fantastic London Boat Show we traveled to Germany to join in with the Dusseldorf Boat Show, alongside Phoenix Yachting - it was great to see how busy it was.
Another fantastic London Boat Show. Meeting new and previous customers that just pop by to say hello. With plenty of great bookings right through to November! We also had some great entrants into our gingerbread boat competition - to win a dinghy sailing course with us this summer - we cant wait to show Charis (our star Gingerbread Decorator) the ropes.
Well done us! We've made it into the top 25 Sea Schools in the UK for our Motor and Power courses, if you don't believe us check it out by clicking here.
A massive well done to all who took part in the Fastnet this year, both 40 Love and Strata 3 made it to the rock and back successfully. With one of our crew raising over £3600 for the charity Freedom From Fistula. We hope you have all recovered now! 2017 will be the Sea Schools 10th Fastnet... will you be on board?
We've been a long time waiting for her to come out of the factory. But finally Peter and his crew sailed the new Beneteau First 40 back to Levington this week. This is very exciting as we are hoping she will be taking part in lots of iconic races over the years. If you wish to book a place on her, or find out more information please click here.
Strata 3 and Strata 6 completed the North Sea Race last weekend and made it to Holland. Both teams got on great and made it back to Levington before the gales hit on Monday! We even managed a 4th in class. Well done to everyone who took part.
Congratulations to our new Cruising Instructors
We have recently run two RYA Cruising Instructor courses, one from our UK base at Levington and the latter in conjunction with our sister school East Aegean, in Marmaris Turkey.

We had a fantastic time and very busy weeks at both London and Dusseldorf Boat Shows, we would like to thank everyone that came to see us and we are looking forward to many of you taking the helm with us! Thanks also to our great team that made the boat shows extremely successful.
We have just confirmed an order for a Beneteau First 40 Carbon Edition and she will look like this.
The First 40 is our biggest and fastest sailing yacht to date and will make us even more competitive in the races East Anglian Sea School historically enters such as the Rolex Fastnet and JP Morgan Round the Island Race. She also lends herself to more comfort on our offshore passages and longer trips such as Round Britain, Ostend Dashes and week-long Holland Hops.
She is called ‘Forty Love’ and will be fully equipped to the code of practice as well as our normal extra goodies! She will have a full inventory of the latest race sails and will be available for race charter worldwide.
Our future plans for 'Forty Love' include The Atlantic Rally for Cruisers, the Caribbean 600 and the legendary Sydney Hobart race. We are very excited and looking forward to her arrival next year.
We are extremely sad to announce that Catherine has left our office team and moved on to a new venture, she has been invaluable to us here at East Anglian Sea School and we would like to thank her for all her hard work and wish her the best of luck for her new job.
The good news is we are delighted that Sheryl will be coming on board to join the EASS crew in the administrator role; she starts in the office on 15th December. She has a challenge ahead but is extremely enthusiastic and we think she will be great.
In the meantime the office will be run between Alison, Megan and Peter so please bear with us if things are not quite as smooth as Catherine’s ways!
The dates for next years courses are now available on our website. We also have the option of booking and paying for our course securely through the website. Click on 'Places Available' after each date to add to your shopping cart.
We are one of the few schools in the UK authorised to run Cruising Instructor courses. Due to the demand in our RYA Cruising Instructor courses we have planned our 2015 dates. Please contact the office for further information.

The sport of stand up paddle (SUP) is growing quickly in the UK and around the world and we have decided to help the growth by offering Stand Up Paddle (SUP) boarding tuition here at East Anglian Sea School.
Stand up paddle boarding also known as SUP is where a person stands on a board that is similar to a surf board but bigger and uses a single paddle to propel themselves through the water.
As well as taking SUP lessons we are also offering stand up paddle board hire and can be contacted for sales if you are interesting in buying your own board. For more details please contact the office.
Strata 6 completed her Round Britain trip in 5 legs. The first crew set off from Suffolk Yacht Harbour, Levington on the 2nd August 2014 to head north towards Inverness, Scotland where we had some crew changes and then carried on the trip through the Caledonian Canal. Strata 6 and her crew then had some good tides and weather across the Irish Sea and down the Irish coast, stopping in Dublin for a pint or three of Guinness. The next stop was Milford Haven, Wales where some more crew changes took place. Unfortunately hurricane Katrina caused some strong winds to hit the UK towards the end of the trip which meant some decisions were made to change the original plan. Weather bound on the Northern Cornish coast the voyage to the Channel Islands was aborted and the crew rounded the Lizzard and headed to Falmouth, where there were greeted by a fleet of the Tall Ships. The final leg included a hop across the English Channel to Cherbourg before Strata 6 headed back up towards the East Coast, arriving home on 5th September 2014. Thanks to all the Skippers and crew to help make the trip successful and if you wish to join us for future adventures just drop us a line.

Summer Courses - We have now completed our first Dinghy Course of the year with great success and taking bookings for the courses we are running throughout the School Summer Holidays for children at all levels. We have five half day or two full day courses avalible. Please visit click here for more details on each level and dates.
New Dinghy Fleet - Over the past two years we have been testing the new Hartley dinghy models, the Hartley 10, Hartley 12 and Hartley 12.2, and as a result have been involved with the re-design and modifying of these dinghies. Hartley Boats have replaced our whole fleet for the latest 2014 dinghies with all the up to date alterations. We have also added a new Hartley Supernova to our dinghy fleet, she is an extremely lightweight and is replacing our Wanderer, and is ideal for race training. We are very excited for the summer ahead so we can get the new dinghies out sailing! For more information on Youth’s Dinghy courses please click on the picture below.
Staff Changes - We are happy to announce that Catherine Higgs has now joined us. Catherine will be your first point of contact on either entering the office or the friendly voice at the end of our telephone to book your courses and deal with any queries.
Round the Island Race - This is the first time we entered our boats for this 50nm race around the Isle of Wight. It was very successful and we are looking forward to next year already. We placed 2nd out of the Sailing School boats and got a respectable 15th in Class.
The race is the fourth largest participation race in this country after the London Marathon and Great North & South Runs. It sees families racing against world renowned yachtsmen and women. If you feel up to the challenge next year, please call Catherine.
VHF - The training requirement for VHF courses has changed. This is now a 10 hour course followed by exam. We aim to complete this in one day, requiring students to complete at least 3 hours of study before attending the course, you will then have 7 hours of training in our classroom followed by an exam. This is a lengthy day but we have found most customers prefer to complete in one day rather than attending over a 2 day period.
Turkey - Our courses are filling up in Turkey so if you prefer to take non-tidal courses in a sunnier climate or would like to just go sailing for fun you will need to talk to our office soon.
Charter - available for both the UK (Coastal Skipper certificate required) and Turkey (Day Skipper certificate required).
Our new range of Hartley Boats have arrived and these are available for all future dinghy sailing courses.
East Anglian Sea School is the East Coast agent for Hartley Boats. Hartley specialise in quality laminating and boat building. They are the fastest growing boat builder in the UK with recognised names such as Optimist, Kestrel, Supernova, Osprey, Wayfarer, Wanderer, Gull, Rebel Skiff and Hartley 10, 12 and 12.2. For further information please call Peter Smith 07966 017418.
